Tenacious Vs Podcast: Logo
In the Fall of 2019, I worked with Nona of Tenacious Vs Podcast to revamp their logo for better use in digital spaces.
The Process
The Brief:
The project goal was to digitize the podcast logo that was previously a scanned sketch while keeping the same vision in mind. Their podcast covers the forgotten stories of "badass" women throughout history, terming them "vixens" as represented by the "V" in the logo.
After listening to a few episodes of the podcast and learning more about the subject matter the podcast leans towards, I gained an understanding of their brand. They were producing an independent, woman-run podcast about the women they admire. Unfortunately, their logo did not communicate this well at the time. It featured a hand-drawn script spelling out "Tenacious" with an arrowhead drawn next to it as the "V" in "Tenacious Vs." From interviews, I understood they wanted the arrowhead as the V to represent the strong females they discussed on the podcast but, the hand-drawn logo conveyed the opposite of their approach to podcasting, appearing shaky and unfinished.
To evoke the strong woman theme they exhibited on the pod, I looked for bold yet flowing typefaces to contrast the arrowhead/spear design we would keep for the "V" in the final logo. To make the arrowhead/spear appear as if it were making an impact in the same way the podcast does, I designed it to look as if it were piercing the ground below it. This addition also gave the logo a more dynamic look. The simple addition of the crack in the ground, implies motion separating it from its competitors.

The Final Logo:
The final logo utilizes a cursive, rounded typeface to evoke the feminine-feel Nona wanted to keep from the original logo and to contrast the bold strike of the arrowhead/spear into the ground. While the arrowhead/spear represents strength and power, it also resembles a pen which fits the idea that the powerful people who run this podcast are telling and rewriting the history of those that came before them.
