Mariposa Logo Animations
The Mariposa logo animation series is an early attempt at my personal brand centered around the Spanish word for butterfly, "la mariposa." In the early stages of developing my brand, I was drawn to the butterfly as my main logo because I have always loved that mariposa sounds like my name Marisela and because of the significance butterflies play in Mexican and Pre-columbian culture. Butterflies are often seen as transformative, other-worldly, and sometimes believed to be our deceased loved ones in a new form. As I am Mexican American, the word mariposa has become a large part of my identity. Drawing on Pre-columbian art styles, I created three 5-10 second logo animations that utilize the mariposa logo to showcase my design and animation skills.

The Concepts:
For each logo animation, I kept personal history and heritage in mind.
Eyes/Creativity: The first logo animation is labeled eyes/creativity, which draws heavily on an even earlier personal brand animation. This early animation showcased a blinking eye that released creativity into the animation in the form of bright, blocks of color. The new animation similarly uses an eyeball as the main character. Strokes and trim paths form the outline of the main eyeball character. Then the outlined eye blinks and opens to reveal an eye filled with color that then brightens the surrounding area with waves of color, eventually revealing the mariposa logo design.
Loteria/Heritage/La Mariposa: The second logo animation draws on my Latinx heritage in the form of Loteria cards and the word mariposa. Loteria cards from the Mexican bingo game fan out face down across the screen, then flip to reveal the designs on the other side with the "La Mariposa" card in the middle. In reality, there is no Loteria card labeled "La Mariposa" but I chose to include it in this animation because of my connection to the word. The Mariposa card then flips once more to reveal my logo design.
My name is... (educational mimic): The third logo animation takes inspiration from the educational explainer style of Crash Course videos. The education theme comes from how my full initials MRG spell out the name "Mr. G," like a teacher's name in grade school. The animation begins with a name tag that reads "hello my name is Mr. G" slapped onto the screen. The name tag then displays several other misnomers for me until it lands on the correct name and logo.
